Kick-off Meeting for the FWF Project LUCA

Last week, the kick-off meeting of the binational FWF project LUCA – Laser Ultrasonics for Hardware Cybersecurity Analysis (grant ID: 10.55776/PIN1915425) took place in Linz. Together with the project partners from France — Mines Saint-Étienne, IETR – Institut d'Électronique et des Technologies du Numérique, IPR – Institut de Physique de Rennes — and RECENDT, the project, the partners, and the current status were presented in a joint workshop.

LUCA focuses on the use of laser ultrasound for the analysis of integrated circuits and the evaluation of hardware security mechanisms. The project aims to use contactless ultrasound-based methods to provide new insights into micro- and nanoscale structures and to complement existing analytical approaches for security-related questions. Research into novel attack and defense methods is intended to support the early implementation of advanced protection mechanisms.

In addition to the scientific objectives, the kick-off meeting also covered the experimental techniques, key project concepts, and the next steps from both scientific and organizational perspectives.
