On 14 and 15 July 2026, 24 children and young people discovered how light and waves are used in modern medicine within the KinderUni in Linz.
At five interactive stations, the young reseachers could try out experiments, take measurements and learn about different technologies. The topics included refraction, scattering and diffraction of light, optical coherence tomography, terahertz technology and image processing. They also learned about ultrasound, stethoscopes and radiation therapy planning with CT and MRI.
Experts from Ordensklinikum Linz, JKU and RECENDT explained the scientific topics in a practical and easy-to-understand way. The children asked many questions, gained new knowledge and showed great interest throughout the event.
We would like to thank everyone involved for the excellent cooperation. We are already looking forward to the next KinderUni.
