Master's examination Severin Hager-Roiser

Our colleague Severin Hager-Roiser successfully defended his Master’s thesis on January 9, 2026. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Kurt Hingerl, Prof. Dr. Johannes Pedarnig, and Priv.-Doz. Dr. Michel Bockstedte.

His thesis, entitled “Raman Spectroscopy for Real-Time Diatomic Trace Gas Detection,” focuses on the highly precise analysis of gases using Raman spectroscopy. As part of his research, an innovative measurement setup was developed in which a 532 nm laser is guided multiple times through the sample gas. The interaction between the laser light and the gas molecules leads to inelastic scattering (Raman effect): Vibrational and rotational motion is induced in the molecules, which subsequently re-emit light at shifted wavelengths. By precisely analyzing this scattered light, even minute impurities in the measured gas can be reliably identified and quantified down to the ppm range (1 part per million). Compared to existing measurement methods, this approach enables significantly faster and lower-maintenance gas analysis, providing clear added value for a wide range of applications in industry and research.

We warmly congratulate him on this outstanding scientific achievement!
