New Publication of RECENDT – Editor’s Pick in "Review of Scientific Instruments"
We are excited to share our latest study which has been published in the July's issue of "Review of Scientific Instruments" (Ed.: American Institute of Physics, vol. 96, issue 7, July 2025). The Editors felt that our article is noteworthy, and have chosen it to be promoted as an Editor's Pick.
The study introduces a single-shot, ultra-fast, contact-less, and non-destructive method for characterizing layered materials using surface acoustic waves.

Watzl et al. (2025) – Single-shot capable surface acoustic wave dispersion measurement of a layered plate
Key Highlights:
• A line-patterned laser pulse excites interfering SAWs on the surface
• Distinct spectral peaks reveal material dispersion characteristics
• Demonstrated on industry-relevant materials for real-world applicability
• Offers a high-speed alternative to dispersion scanning
• Single-shot capability enables use on moving parts
This method allows for stationary measurements of SAW dispersion—eliminating the need for time-consuming scanning and opening new possibilities for in-line and real-time material diagnostics.
Congratulations to the entire team:
Georg Watzl, Clemens Grünsteidl, Stefan Eder, Martin Ryzy, Mike Hettich, Edgar Scherleitner (all RECENDT GmbH), and Martin Schagerl (Johannes Kepler Universität Linz) for this successful collaboration!
