In life sciences and medicine, there is a great demand for high-resolution imaging methods that provide both structural and functional image data in real time and are affordable at the same time. It is undisputed that the use of such methods enables comprehensive diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring. Such structural and functional imaging is only possible by combining several modalities.

The aim of this project is to develop an affordable multimodal microscope which allows to measure structural and functional data of tissues. Therefore, photoacoustic imaging will be combined with infrared spectroscopic imaging.
