FFG Success Story - Biofilm detection

An innovative research result within the FFoQSI competence centre has been presented as a video success story by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG.

The project focuses on a newly developed system for the early detection of biofilms. Biofilms can form on surfaces in production facilities and are a serious contamination risk, especially in the food industry. The new system can detect biofilms quickly and without damaging the surface. It can also be used to check whether cleaning processes are effective.

The technology was first developed in the RECENDT laboratory. Together with partners from the FFoQSI network, it was then adapted for use in industry. This cooperation resulted in a first prototype that was successfully tested in practice.

The project was funded through the COMET programme. The close cooperation between research organisations and companies helps to detect contamination early, improve cleaning processes and increase food safety in the long term.
